Coins for Community - Virginia Beach Library Foundation

Libraries today are less about what they have and more about what they do. The Virginia Beach Public Library has worked hard to keep up with the digital demands of a 21st century library. Support from the City of Virginia Beach has laid the groundwork, but the people of Virginia Beach are seeking more from our libraries and these advanced services are not fulfilled through city funding. As the library’s charitable arm, the Virginia Beach Library Foundation uses gifts to fund special projects, materials and programs benefitting the community that the library could not otherwise afford through its annual operating budget. This year, the Virginia Beach Library Foundation provided nearly $75,000 to Virginia Beach Public Library to fund programs and materials, including the Summer Reading Challenge and educational toys that teach elementary school-age children how to code.

The Virginia Beach Public Library adds value to our community’s quality of life in five key areas: education, employment, entrepreneurship, empowerment and engagement. The library provides programs for everything from school readiness to technology readiness, from language development to career development, from special needs to advanced needs. Today’s library has an impact on people at every stage of life, from every walk of life. By supporting the Virginia Beach Library Foundation, you are making an investment in your community that you can’t afford not to make!

Virginia Beach Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. It is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of business and community leaders.

Our coin machines are located at both our Thalia and Princess Anne branches. The machines count coins which you can deposit into your account or get cash back. Best of all, the coin machines take loose change, meaning you’ll never have to roll coin again!

There is a nominal fee for using the coin machines. Members are charged 2% of coin deposit, and guest members pay 4% of coin deposit. Rather than keeping the fee income, though, we are matching and donating all collected fees to our Coins for Community partner.
